Continue ShoppingGrowing your own food provides better tasting, higher nutrient value, always fresh vegetables. And they cost a fraction of what you have to pay at the grocery store. Having a great assortment of vegetables to choose from in your own garden takes remarkably less space than you think. You can get a really good salad from only a few square meters, that means even your balcony is a good place to grow.
Last season we grew sixty three different types of veggies at the farm ( times that by the 45+ varieties of tomatoes alone and that's a whole bunch of veggies). Bet you didn’t think there were that many? But with four types of radish, six varieties of lettuce and six different squash they can add up quickly.
The kids are much more active participants in the veggies patch than in the flowers. There is something special about watching beans and peas grow, squash and melon get larger and larger and of course that look of surprise when the carrots get pulled for the first time. We even caught our youngest eating cherry tomatoes right off the vine on more than one occasion.
If you dream of having fresh vegetables right outside your door but feel stuck taking those first few steps, we have you covered. Stop dreaming and pick up an Instant Garden. There are two sizes; thirty six plants or a fifty pack of ready to plant vegetables that you simply transplant, water and enjoy. You’ll be the family superhero for this one. You can even treat yourself to an Instant Flower Garden too.

Even as I put the outdoor garden to bed I’m busy with urns and table tops for xmas. So glad gardening never ends.

Tomatoes are super easy to grow and always rewards the grower with great tasting salads and snacks! We grow ours in containers, which can sometimes be challenging because of inconsistent watering, resulting in blossom end rot. A quick fix is to crush a few Tums, mix with water, and spray the leaves. The calcium will be absorbed through the leaves faster than watering and save your crop!

We have great success with crops that don’t mind cool/shady conditions. So I love to grow a variety of greens like spinach, arugula, mizuna, and lettuce in multiple textures and colours. Throw in some nasturtiums and flowering herbs to attract beneficial insects and we are set!
