When I stepped off the path, the corporate one, and found walking barefoot in soft soil was just what my soul needed, I knew where I wanted to go.  Not necessarily how I was going to get there. 

Fifteen years have passed since I made a conscious decision to embrace a back-to-basics approach reminiscent of past generations. Seems the ability to explain where things on the farm come from and how they are grown is lost to some. Moving to a farm and growing edibles and raising chickens was just the medication I was looking for. A simpler life, a more rewarding lifestyle. 

Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t gone full pioneer and my Instant Pot(s) and KitchenAid mixer get their fair share of work. But, sometimes, I make my own butter, although not with grandma’s churn. I don’t grind my own flour but I do buy from my local mill.  My choices involve fresh ingredients but they taste better,  take a little more time to prepare but teach my kids more, and make me feel better on a bunch of levels. And I am always thinking about my place in this landscape.  My footprint.  My impact.
