A few years ago I got into a conversation at a farmer’s market which led me to a little part-time job helping out at a struggling organic farm. The little farm folded the following year, but it set me on the path to finding an acreage with my husband where we can grow an abundance of vegetables and flowers to share with friends, family and neighbours. I rarely have the courage to talk to vendors at markets, but that little conversation was life-changing. I’m glad I had it!

I started a cut flower garden because I was so inspired by a local flower farm. I had thrown myself in to gardening, but mainly sprucing up the perennial beds around my house and creating a vegetable garden. But then I thought, why wouldn’t I have rows and rows of beautiful flowers in my own yard to cut and share with friends and family? It’s become such a creative outlet for me, and the happiness each and every little bloom brings is so worth it!

This year, I’ve taken the leap of faith into starting my own small cut flower farm! It’s so scary but I can’t wait to see what happens in the spring.

I love to make bouquets from my flowers but I have trouble snipping them because I so enjoy seeing them in the garden. Obviously I need to grow more so I have enough to enjoy in the garden and enough to snip!
