Each of my children has their own copy of the book, Oh, The Places You Will Go.
It is full of Suess wisdom that my kids can understand. No boundaries, or limitations, to think about, just make room for a dream; any dream.
Every so often, we get an email from someone, or somebody who is at our farm cutting their own bouquet, will say, “I’ve always dreamt of growing flowers for bouquets to give to my friends and I wanted to come and see what it is like”.
Encouraging people to get into flowers is always on my list because I know what it can bring to your life. And sharing your own cut flowers on any scale will bring happiness to. The first summer of the pandemic I was standing in my yard thinking that I needed more flowers for cut flowers. Then I looked over at the 1/3 acre that we had not touched since we moved to the property. Then I realized there was no close place to get cut flowers in our rural area. And that was that, our flower farm was born! My daughter and I are just finishing year one. We broke ground in April, managed to get about half our available area cleared and planted. We started selling at our local farmers market in August. The smiles, the thank you’s and especially the children picking up tiny arrangements for their parents or themselves – what a joy. And now, there is never a shortage of flowers for the house!

This year I grew dahlias and had a little cut flower garden – I loved being able to walk outside and create my own little bouquets ( frequently lopsided, unbalanced and droopy – but I loved every one of them!).

I don’t sell flowers. Maybe one day, but who knows. I started gardening years ago when my now husband was sent on deployment and we had to cancel our wedding. I found both peace and empowerment in the garden, and I like to spread the joy giving flowers away. I would love to have a real gardening kit and be able to buy some more seeds. My hope for next season is just to grow some bouquets to give to neighbours while I finish my studies. Who knows what the future holds after that!

I used to sell bouquets of flowers at the local farmers market. Often people would stop by just to look at them or take photos and I could share the joy it brought to them.
