One trend that certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed during this pandemic is the number of people who are growing in non-traditional spaces. And by that I mean, for those who don’t have garden space, many have turned to containers and balcony growing. And who can blame you! It really doesn’t take that much room to grow a few favourites, for snacks or salads.
It’s totally doable. The first step in planting a garden on your patio or balcony is to arrange a container or two on your balcony and fill it with soil. Be sure to put a few holes in the bottom of the box for drainage of excess water and something under the container to catch that water. If you don’t have room for a large container, you can grow many things in smaller pots. Once you have completed these steps, you are ready to start planting.
Commonly grown items for small pots and containers are herbs. With the likes of Mint, Rosemary, Cilantro, Parsley, Basil and Tarragon leading the way. Based mostly on size and their ability to perform so well in containers. But you don’t have to stop at just herbs. Most balconies that have some sun would do very well with veggies like Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Peppers, Zucchini, Celery, and of course lots of leafy greens. Imagine just having to step outside of your apartment to grab all the ingredients you need for a fresh salad?
To make it easy to reach out and grab that salad, we are featuring the seeds you need for a Salad Bowl at Your Fingertips on Day Fifteen of Twenty-Four Days of Giveaways. You will receive an awesome eight pack of Lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Sweet Peppers, Radish, Greek Oregano, Basil, Kale and Swiss Chard seeds all ready for your fresh salad.
For a chance to win leave a comment below. In your message share what veggies you love to grow, or what herbs you enjoy growing the most, anything really, as long as it's meant to pick people up. I love growing foods I can eat while I’m in the garden- bush beans, snap peas, cucamelon, cherry tomato. My favourite herb to grow is mojito mint- there’s nothing like a fresh mojito on a hot summer day.

I love growing basil! My kids love pesto so we’re tripling our basil growing for 2021 to be able to freeze more of it in little jars for pasta night, having used most of our frozen pesto already. We make our pesto with half kale, so it makes me so happy to know we’re sneakily getting a veggie into them.

I love to grow anything I can eat and doesn’t get too eaten by bugs!

I love everything about basil. From many of the more unusual varieties that found their way in to bouquets to the common basil that I use to make pesto every year. This was the first year that I grew all my basil from seed and was suprised how well it germinated and thrived in my sun drenched meadows.
